Hunza Nagar District

The Hunza–Nagar District is the seventh district of Gilgit–Baltistan of Pakistan. The district comprises Hunza and Nagar. Aliabad is the administrative center of this district. Before the announcement of new district, Hunza–Nagar was part of district Gilgit.

History

In 1974 Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Butto ended the ghost governance of "Rajhghee", with a single administrator, known as "Raja". Formerly this region was divided into two states, Hunza and Nagar.

Hunza Valley

The Hunza Valley is a mountainous valley, situated north/west of the Hunza River, at an elevation of around 2,500 metres (8,200 ft). The territory of Hunza is about 7,900 square kilometres (3,100 sq mi). Aliabad is the main town, while Baltit and Altit are popular tourist destination because of the spectacular scenery of the surrounding mountains likeUltar Sar, Rakaposhi, Bojahagur Duanasir II, Ghenta Peak, Hunza Peak, Passu Peak, Diran Peak and Bublimotin (Ladyfinger Peak), all 6,000 metres (19,685 ft) or higher.

Karimabad, in Hunza Valley, is the capital of Hunza. It is also known as Baltit. It is named after Prince Karim Aga Khan, the spiritual head of Shia Ismaili Nizari community.

Nagar Valley

The Nagar Valley is situated at an elevation of 2,438m (7,999 feet). Nagar Khas is the main town and the capital of the former state of Nagar.The population is around 10,000,00. Ghulmet,hisper ,hoper, proper nagar ,summayar ,Askurdas ,phekar,minapin ,skindarabad ,chalt , Chaprote Valleys are popular tourist attractions in the Nagar region because of the spectacular scenery of the surrounding mountains such as. Rakaposhi (Gulmit), Diran (Menapin), Spantik (Hopper), and Ultar Sar.

Nagar (Nagar Proper, Nagar Khas) is the capital of Nagar Valley. It is the spiritual head of Shia Shia Islam and followers of Ayatllah Ali al-Sistani.
