Hyderabad District

Haiderābād District (Sindhi: ضلعو حيدرآباد Urdu: ضِلع حیدرآباد‎),

pronunciation is a district of Sindh, Pakistan. It used to be an administrative division of the Sindh namely theHyderabad Division, until the reforms of 2000 abolished the third tier of government. Its capital is the city of Hyderabad. The Kirthar National Park is located in Hyderabad district. According to the 2012 census of Pakistan, the district had a population of 4.5 million of which 60.07% were urban, making it second-most urbanised district of Sindh after Karachi.

Administration and government

The city of Hyderabad is where the district headquarters are located and the district government is seated. The current administrator is Aftab Ahmed Khatri. Hyderabad District is administratively subdivided into the following talukas:

Hyderabad City
Hyderabad Rural
Latifabad
Qasimabad

As of 2008, the district Hyderabad enabled its e-Governance platform to support people via the Internet and other new media platforms.

Till some years back, old Hyderabad district included the adjoining districts of present day Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Allahyar and Tando Muhammad Khan. Even before that till the early 1970s the district Hyderabad included all the four districts mentioned above as well as the District Badin.

Demographics

Combined population of these four districts (not including Badin) as per the 1998 census was 2.891M out of which 1.469M people lived in urban while the rest 1.422M people lived in the rural areas. Following are the religious and linguistic figures of the old Hyderabad district as of 1998:

However in the urban areas, Urdu speakers formed a majority at 54.79% and Sindhis at 35.21% in 1998. But as of 2013 Demographics of the urban areas have changed,making sindhis at 40% to 44%, and Urdu 46% to 50%. There Has been rapid Immigration to urban areas from other areas of Sindh and Other provinces,that's why Hyderabad growth recorded in 2012 June was more than 6.5%.
