Reiterating on National Unity Government (NUG's) commitment to achieving sustainable peace, President Ashraf Ghani said the recent direct talks with the Taliban was the biggest achievement of Afghanistan over the past 14 years.
Appearing in a press conference after attending Shanghai summit in Russia, Ghani said on Sunday evening that Afghanistan needed a "prestigious and sustainable peace."
Highlighting the gains made at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, the president said the summit was a significant opportunity to deliver Afghanistan's view to the SCO members.
"At Shanghai summit, we focused on implementation of agreements," Ghani said.
Touching on the issue of Daesh, he maintained that the regional countries were all facing threats posed by Daesh.
"Terrorists are coming from Pakistan, China and Russia," Ghani warned.
He stated that Daesh was different from other militant groups.
"Daesh is not expanding from Afghanistan to the region, but the fact is that it is being expanded to Afghanistan from regional countries," Ghani said, answering a journalist's question.
Referring to the drug production and trafficking, Ghani expressed that narcotics had tarnished the image of Afghanistan.
"Fighting poverty is important for eliminating narcotics," he noted.
Recently, a delegation of Afghan officials visited Islamabad where they hold first ever direct talks with the Taliban.
The delegation which recently returned from what they called a productive discussion with Taliban and Haqqani members in Islamabad, capital of Pakistan, told media on Tuesday they gained significant achievements.
