A "perfect" diamond has sold for a record $22 million at a Sotheby's auction in New York, according to the auctions house.
The 100-carat is the largest of its clarity and cut to ever be shown at auction.
A statement from Sotheby's said "led by the sale of a remarkable 100-carat "Perfect" Diamond, which sold for $22.1 million, the Magnificent Jewels auction brought a total $65,086,500, a record for a jewelry auction at Sotheby's New York."
The statement added “the classic emerald-cut diamond's D color and internally flawless clarity is exceptionally rare at this scale."
Only six perfect diamonds weighing over 100 carats have sold at auction in the last 25 years, and Sotheby’s sold five of those stones.
