Responding to comments made by Pakistan High Commissioner in India Abdul Basit, the official spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Vikas Swarup said on Friday that they will be taking up cross-border terrorism in Indian Kashmir during the national security adviser talks scheduled for late august.
“The only struggle in Jammu and Kashmir is against Pakistani sponsored terrorism,” Swarup alleged in a tweet on Friday evening. Swarup was responding to a question posed on micro-blogging website Twitter.
“This will be the subject of the upcoming NSA level talks,” Swarup added, hinting at the agenda for the August 23-24 talks in New Delhi.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s High Commissioner in New Delhi Abdul Basit had said that Pakistan would not abandon Kashmiris in their legitimate struggle for freedom.
“No matter how much time their legitimate struggle takes, Pakistan will never abandon Kashmiris and their cause.”
Pakistan’s national security adviser Sartaj Aziz had confirmed on Thursday that he will visit New Delhi on August 23 for bilateral talks.
Noting how his visit was “not a breakthrough” for the composite dialogue and all the issues but, Aziz hoped that it would at least provide and an “ice breaking on some issues… and let’s hope it will lead to further more comprehensive dialogue on the other issues between the two countries.”
