Would you sit like this? New airline seat arrangement proposed

U.S. airlines have begun to reap profits due to an industrywide effort to fit in more passengers in the economy section of planes, the LA Times reported.

Zodiac Seats France, one of the world’s largest airline seat makers, has submitted a patent in order to rearrange the seats on an airplane in a way that the middle seat of an aisle of three would be facing the opposite direction.

These seats will be easier to exit because, much like movie theatre chairs, the seats flip up after the passenger stands up. This design, known as the “hexagon”, increase the number of passengers who can fit on a typical Boeing 767 by up to 80 fliers.

However, Jason Rabinowitz, data research manager at Routehappy.com, a website that compares airline seats and amenities, predicts that the industry will instead focus on shrinking onboard lavatories to fit more travelers
